Shaniwar Wada was the residence of the Peshwas. This gate, in a way, symbolizes the power of the Marathas (who held sway over India for the better part of the 18th Century). The spikes on the gates were to prevent war-elephants from ramming down the gates in the event of a siege.

Looks majestic!
Nice click, reminded me of our visit to the fort located in mid of the city yet having a clean place to walk around, great picture perfect spots and neat lawns good to lie down enjoy green grass and summer J In short good preserved seat of the Peshwa Rulers from Maratha Empire.
